Destination San Ciprianu
HISTORY OF THE VILLAGE
San Ciprianu and its surroundings have always been frequented since prehistoric times. Many archaeological sites bear witness to this.
In ancient times, a Roman trading post was established near the pond’s outlet.
In the Middle Ages, successive invaders forced the inhabitants to retreat to the mountains. Among them, the Genoese who occupied Corsica for 5 centuries. It was during this long period that the Genoese towers were built, that of San Ciprianu would have been built around 1590. Later and until the beginning of the 20th century, San Ciprianu traded with Italy. From its natural port, boats loaded with charcoal left.
It was only from the second half of the 20th century that San Ciprianu turned to tourism with the construction of many second homes.
